What we accept

#1 Copper

The top everyday grade after bare bright. It covers clean copper pipe, free of solder, paint, and fittings, and heavy stripped copper wire that is clean and shiny. The more bare and uniform the copper, the closer it gets to the best posted price.

#2 Copper

Pipe and copper pieces carrying solder, paint, or light oxidation, the most common grade from plumbing renovations. It pays less than #1 but remains in strong demand.

Stripped wire and offcuts

Already-stripped copper wire is graded on cleanliness and gauge. Shop offcuts, trimmings, and machined copper pieces are accepted too.

What lowers the grade

Brass fittings, solder, leftover insulation, and heavy corrosion move a piece into a lower grade. Pipe with brass fittings attached isn't refused, it's simply graded and weighed accordingly.

Preparation tips

  • ✓Separate #1 from #2 copper before your visit: a mixed lot is graded at the lower grade.
  • ✓Cut or unscrew brass fittings and sell them with your brass, they're worth more that way.
  • ✓No need to polish tarnished copper: light surface oxidation is normal.
  • ✓For heavy cable, call us before stripping, depending on the type, it can be worth more sold as-is.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between #1 and #2 copper? ▾
#1 copper is clean: pipe free of solder and paint, and bright stripped wire. #2 copper carries solder, paint, or light oxidation. Cleanliness sets the price, #1 pays more than #2.
Do you buy copper pipe with solder or fittings? ▾
Yes. Pipe with solder, paint, or fittings is accepted and graded as #2 or according to its condition. Removing brass fittings before weigh-in gets you a better return.
Should I strip my copper wire before selling it? ▾
It's not required, we buy insulated wire too. For heavy cable, stripping can raise the value; call us at (450) 645-5555 and we'll advise based on the cable type.
How are copper prices set? ▾
Our prices follow the metals market and are updated regularly on our prices page. The final amount depends on grade (#1, #2, stripped wire), weight, and how clean the lot is.
