What we accept
Clean vs “dirty” aluminum
The key distinction. A door or window frame stripped of its steel screws, glass, and plastic is clean aluminum. The same piece with screws, steel hardware, or inserts becomes ferrous (“dirty”) aluminum, which pays noticeably less. An aluminum bike frame, for example, is worth more once the steel components are removed.
Extrusions
Molded pure-aluminum profiles (6063 type): door and window frames, railings, industrial profiles. One of the best-paying aluminum grades, but with very little tolerance for contamination.
Rims (mags)
Car alloy wheels are a separate, well-paying grade.
Mixed aluminum, sheet, and cast
Aluminum items of all kinds with no contaminants: sheet, aluminum panels, castings, cookware. Aluminum-copper radiators are graded separately and pay better, see our copper page as well.
Preparation tips
- ✓Remove steel screws and hardware when it's easy: the piece moves from the ferrous grade to clean.
- ✓Keep extrusions (door/window frames) separate from the rest, they sell for more on their own.
- ✓Strip glass, plastic, and weatherstripping from window frames.
- ✓A magnet is your best tool: anything that sticks isn't aluminum.
